As a theoretical biologist, a central goal of my teaching is to make theoretical research and quantitative methods broadly accessible to biology students. At the same time, I find it rewarding to teach a wide range of courses, from quantitatively focused, skills-based ones to more conceptual ones spanning diverse topics in evolutionary biology. I continually work to incorporate active learning strategies that increase student engagement and to improve my ability to account for student diversity across multiple dimensions, including neurodiversity and cultural background.
Courses
At the University of Groningen, I currently contribute to teaching as a co-lecturer in the following courses:
- Evolutionary Processes (BSc; coordinator & co-lecturer)
- Modelling Life (BSc; coordinator & co-lecturer)
- Python Programming for Biologists (BSc; co-lecturer)
- Skills for Biology 2: Quantitative Research Methods (MSc; co-lecturer)
- Evolutionary Theory (MSc; co-lecturer)
- Evolutionary Medicine: Diseases of Affluence (MSc; co-lecturer)
Project supervision
I supervise BSc research projects, MSc research projects, and MSc colloquia in Theoretical Evolutionary Biology. Please contact me if you are interested in working with me!
